A key challenge for local government is developing revenue generating activity in order to mitigate the effects of declining budgets. An important service in this regard for waste collection authorities/unitary authorities is the success and profitability of trade waste services. Frith RM has extensive experience in both collection modelling and trade waste analysis including assessments of local, sub regional markets and competitor analysis. We have also supported both public and private sector commercial waste operators in developing services and their internal management systems.
There are some good practice examples of rapid expansion through a commercial approach to the trade waste service (e.g. Oxford City Council) and the use of telematics, staff incentivisation and cross selling are important elements for developing the business.
